Landless, 4
2012-17
hand cut maps, refolded, layered and mounted on the wall
4' x 4' x 5"
I decided to honor my grandmothers in this version of Landless & used only maps of Ireland. I realized after reading about the Silent Sentinels, that my grandparents all emigrated from Ireland around the time they were protesting. In Ireland the struggle for freedom included rights for women. All this was happening while they were teenagers. I can only imagine that arriving to the US as young women and having the right to vote must have been extraordinarily empowering for them.
